About Something From Nothing
Your instructor, Sarah Thurstenson, lives in Pensacola, Florida where she is a graphic designer and mom of David, 28 and Abby, 24. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Eastern Kentucky University in 1989. At that time, a BFA was earned through classical art training. Curriculum included art history, sculpture, painting (in several different mediums), jewelry making, and hand manipulated graphic layout. She moved to Siloam Springs, Arkansas to work for DaySpring Greeting Cards as a graphic designer. She met her husband, Chris, who was born and raised in Siloam Springs. He convinced her to stay and raise their family here. She is glad she did! They spent 30 years in Siloam Springs. She and Chris moved to Pensacola in 2020 to spend more time with her Aunt Sandy and Southern family!
Through this education and a career of being surrounded by professional fine artists and designers, Sarah came to love painting. It became her way to relax. She knows starting with a blank canvas can be intimidating, but there’s nothing like the thrill of making Something From Nothing. The idea for paint parties came from this passion and wanting to share the fun and feeling of accomplishment with others.
Paint studios were becoming popular for group painting activities. When living in a community that is some distance from the nearest paint studios, she realized there was the desire for some people to have the opportunity to stay close and have their friends in their home or in a local venue.
With a little guidance, and the encouragement of friends, anyone can enjoy painting and walk away with a work of art. Sarah has carefully designed a collection of paintings that she knows she can guide you through. And she will also work with you on a custom design of your choice! With some simple techniques, the right tools, and a little encouragement, anyone can make Something from Nothing!
